Battery Backup Sump Pump Installation Cost

True to form, spring has been bringing its share of showers to Oswego, Yorkville, Naperville, Aurora and Plainfield (IL). All of that rain drains into the earth, where it drains regardless of what’s in the way, including the foundation of your home or business.

If the foundation has cracks in it, it will become even more susceptible to seepage. On average, 14,000 people in the U.S. deal with water-damage emergencies each day, and 98% of basements will have water damages over their lifetime. Proper drainage is vital.

Beyond the obvious problem of flooding, if too much water is allowed to gather around your foundation without being rerouted, it can lead to:

  • mold and mildew growth
  • insect and rodent infestation
  • damp, moldy or wet insulation

  • damage to belongings
  • rusting metal or wood rot
  • water stains

A sump pump protects you from the intrusion of water, which in addition to rain might flow in from overflowing gutters or a backup such as an overflowing washing machine.

Because water flows downhill, the sump pump is installed in a sump pit (basin) at the lowest point of the home or business, which may be the basement or a crawl space. The sump remains quiet and on standby until water starts to collect in the foundation and fill the sump pit.

When the water in the sump pit reaches a certain level, it will activate the sump pump to turn on and redirect the water away through a pipe. It achieves this with the law of centrifuge, which moves the water to the sides of the pipe and leaves a low-pressure area in the center of it. The water is pumped out sufficiently far outside, and a one-way check valve prevents it from flowing back into the sump pit.

This system is highly effective in guarding you from excess water. However, complete protection depends on another component as well.

The Vital Battery Backup Sump Pump

The battery backup sump pump is equally important to preventing water intrusion. If the power goes out during a severe thunderstorm, the main sump pump will not operate. The battery backup detects that the main pump is off and turns itself on to continue pumping water away from the home or business. A battery backup will also support the main sump pump if the water infiltration is too much for the main pump to handle.

If activated, most systems will issue a loud alarm to alert you that the sump system has switched to battery power. They also will usually have a pump-failure alarm and a stuck–float switch warning.

With today’s technology, smart sump pump battery backups can even send notices to a phone or other ring system to let you know that the backup system has taken over for the main one.

How Much Does a Battery Backup Sump Pump Installation Cost?

The cost to install a battery backup sump pump is determined by a few different factors such as the following.

Battery type. You will typically have two options: a solar battery or an AGM (absorbent glass mat) battery. A solar-powered battery will require outside solar panels that are close to the battery. With an AGM battery backup, you will choose from a deep-cycle, marine, maintenance-free or wet-cell battery. These usually provide DC power and when maintained well can last for 10 years or more.

Build quality. A proper battery backup sump pump should be made of durable materials so it can do its work under strain and have a longer lifespan. A cast-iron backup system can withstand the demands caused by severe weather. A stainless steel system is similarly known for its corrosion resistance. Plastic systems are available for those who don’t expect the backup to be used often (which rules out many homes and businesses in Oswego, Yorkville, Naperville, Aurora and Plainfield). A plastic system typically won’t hold up well under pressure.

The backup system’s brand and model will influence the installation cost as well. For example, Tramco and Aquanot® systems are known for their quality and performance and therefore priced accordingly.

Pumping capacity. It should meet your home’s or business’s requirements. If your neighborhood has frequent power outages, you will need a backup that can charge quickly with enough power to drain the water and moisture quickly. Higher-capacity backups will cost more than lower-capacity backups.

Installation. If a backup system must be installed in an area such as a tight crawlspace, the total cost may reflect that difficulty.

Warranty. The backup system warranty can vary among different models. You’ll want to consider a brand and model that offer the most product coverage.

Depending on the variables, the cost to install a battery backup sump pump for a home or business in Oswego, Yorkville, Naperville, Aurora and Plainfield will be between $2,500 and $7,500.

I had a great experience with Aqueduct. They came by to service my AC unit and were incredibly professional from start to finish. The technician was punctual, explained exactly what was being done, and made sure everything was running efficiently before leaving. It’s a relief to have the system ready for the heat. Highly recommend their services if you want honest work and technical expertise.

We had our water heater go out on Thanksgiving Day. We had a contract with another provider in the area who didn’t have our size water heater in stock and with the storm, no one was available until Monday. I called Aquaduct’s emergency line and received a call back within 5 minutes on a Saturday. After waiting almost two days, they were able to come out within 2 hours and provide a honest quote with breakdown that was easy to understand. We are canceling our contract with the other provider. Very professional and friendly! Highly recommend!!

I have been using Aquaduct plumbing for years now. Jason the Owner is Amazing! Jason always takes the time to answer any questions and always thoroughly explains the work he will be doing. The customer service is also top notch; from the first phone call I make to the office speaking to either Vanessa or Britanny to when Jason and Mike show up at my front door. They all go above and beyond to make calling a plumber less stressful. I highly recommend using this company.
